Freedom of Information requests

Freedom of information (FOI) overview

In line with the FOI Act, the Courts Service provides information about the organisation and its activities through the Publication scheme and publishes decisions on non-personal FOI requests in the FOI disclosure log. Before making a request, please check these pages, as the information you need may already be available. You can also review the Courts Service annual report.

Court records exemption notice

Under section 42(a)(i) of the Freedom of Information Act 2014, records of the courts—other than records relating to the general administration of the Office—are not accessible under the FOI Act. This includes records concerning court proceedings.

Outside the FOI Act, access to some court records is generally limited to the parties involved or their legal representatives. If you are seeking access to court records, please contact the relevant court office directly.
