Temporary music and singing licence

What this application does

The temporary music and singing licence application allows you to apply for a music and singing licence for less than one year or for less than fourteen days.

Licences for less than fourteen days are generally granted for particular events. In other circumstances, it can be used to license the premises up to the next annual licensing court.

A licence is required for any venue typically used for playing public music or singing, whether licenced to sell alcohol or not.

How much this application costs

There is a fee of €150 per application.

How to apply

1. Complete your application

If you are a legal practitioner and have an account in CSOL, you can complete the application in CSOL. Alternatively, you can complete the application manually. The appropriate form is dependent on the intended outcome (licence granted for less than one year or less than fourteen days):

2. Serve the notice parties

You must notify or serve the relevant notice parties for your application. If the application is submitted in CSOL, the notice parties are automatically notified. Alternatively, you can serve the notice manually. Please see our serving and proof of service page for more information.

For this application, the notice parties are:

  • An Garda Síochána must be notified at least fourteen days prior to the court date.
  • The Fire Officer must be notified at least one month prior to the court date.

3. Submit your application

You can submit your application through CSOL or manually at the court office. The application must be lodged at least four days prior to the court date.

4. Provide proofs to the court office

You will have to provide the required supporting documentation or "proofs" to the court office. This must be done manually as there is currently no option to upload the "proofs" listed below through CSOL.

What proofs are required

  1. Original notice of application with relevant stamp duty. The application should state whether the premises is licensed for the sale of intoxicating liquor. The applicable hours should also be included or provided in court.
  2. Statutory declaration of service (where the application is served manually).
  3. Confirmation that there is no objection from the Fire Officer or An Garda Síochána.

What additional proofs may be required

Each judge or district may have additional requirements. This may include all or some of the below proofs. It is advisable to check with your local court office.

  1. Company documents (where the applicant is a company).
  2. Plans for the premises - The plans should show each room in the premises used for public music, singing or other entertainment. A single licence can be obtained for an entire building but each room or area used for public music, singing or other entertainment must be clearly shown on the plans.
  3. Confirmation that the applicant is not disqualified from holding a licence under Licensing (Combatting Drug Abuse) Act 1997.
